"Sound The Watch!"

Summer Concert Series at the Portland Firefighter Memorial

The Portland Firefighter Memorial is a historic and often overlooked gathering place in the heart of the Stadium / Goose Hollow Neighborhood.  It is about to come alive with music.

We’re proud to announce the launch of a summer concert series to reintroduce this memorial space to the public as a site of remembrance and as a living symbol of civic pride and togetherness.

The idea was sparked in a collaboration between Don Porth, a retired Portland Firefighter and longtime steward of the David Campbell Memorial, and Michelle Milla, a community activist in the Stadium district.  Don's deep commitment to preserving the legacy of Portland’s firefighters is merging with Michelle's broader vision for community vibrancy.

Together, along with other community supporters, we’re building a season of free outdoor concerts that will feature local musicians with family-friendly energy, creating opportunities for neighbors to connect.

Music is one of the oldest vessels we have for remembering who we are. Long before monuments were built or names carved in stone, people passed down legacy through melody, rhythm and voice. Songs hold our histories, our heartbreak, our resilience and hopes for what comes next. In this way, music is not just entertainment. Music is memory set in motion.

The David Campbell Memorial contains the memory of service and sacrifice by Portland Firefighters who have served Portland continuously since 1853.  The David Campbell Memorial was built to honor fallen Fire Chief David Campbell, but also honor and remember all 77 Portland Firefighters who have given their lives in service to the citizens of Portland.

This unique triangle of property is not just for Portland Firefighters, it is really all about community.  It is a space meant for gathering. For remembering. For living. When we fill our spaces with music, we are reawakening stories and creating room for community

Whether you’ve lived here for decades or just arrived last month, let’s make this summer in the Stadium Neighborhood one to remember!
